Supplement Brands I Trust

I have found supplements to be an invaluable addition to most health regimens – for overall health maintenance, and especially for healing after acute or during chronic illness.

One cool thing about the health and wellness world we now live in is that there are no best-kept health secrets anymore. So you can find the uses and benefits of any supplement for any disease on the internet.

Unfortunately, this can be both a blessing and a curse. There is just so much information and so many brands out there! Everyone has a health claim to make and everyone is trying to sell the shit out of that claim!

I believe the skill a naturopathic doctor may have over Dr. Google is that of discernment. Not just regarding what supplement to use for a specific person and their health concerns, but also what brands to purchase.

I have absolutely no affiliation to any supplement brand company, but supplement quality control is JUST AS important as choosing the right supplement for the job. In fact, I would extend this to say that (with a few exceptions) it would be better to save your money and not purchase a low-quality supplement than to buy the “correct” one for the job risking safety, contamination, and inefficacy.

Here is something to understand about the diet and supplement industry:

There is a law called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) that says that it is the manufacturer’s responsibility to demonstrate safety and efficacy of their product (conflict of interest, much?!). Get this too… this process is voluntary! That means that the FDA does NOT test whether what the company says is in their product is actually in there. Sure, the company must maintain basic good manufacturing practices like cleanliness, but it’s a somewhat of a free for all situation, which is SUPER scary to me.

Good quality supplements come from companies that go through third-party certifications (that they pay for!) to make sure there are no contaminants in the supplement and that the product actually contains the listed ingredients at the listed dosages.

Again, I have no affiliation with any brand. I am not endorsed by them or get paid by anyone. But these are the companies I have learned to trust so far based on their superior quality. I am sharing with you so that you can be an informed consumer. And yes, like most things in life, we pay more for quality. But if you are going to do it, do it well.

But remember… if you have a health concern, trial and error with Dr. Google as your guide is a pretty big gamble! We all do it. I've done it. But if you can, try to seek advice from a trained professional to see what supplement may be indicated for you in the first place.
